Why support the Midspace project?
Conferences are one of the central places where research is disseminated, new ideas are born and collaborations form. It is important that we maximise diversity and inclusion at these events. Midspace is part of the solution to this challenge.
Virtual conferences offer both challenges and opportunity for increasing access to events. On the one hand, they enable global participation of a broader range of people, with minimal climate impact. They can also dramatically reduce the cost of attending conferences, which benefits both researchers and students who have limited budget.
However, virtual conferences pose challenges for accessibility, interactivity and long-term viability. The Midspace project is tackling each of these through development of the platform, offering the platform at-cost as a hosted service, and through researching user experience.

The Midspace project is developed, maintained and operated by a core team, led by its founding academics, and contributed to by a wide range of volunteers and researchers. We rely on donations and sponsorships to continue the advanced engineering necessary for the cloud platform and to support research into virtual conference user experience.

Conferences using Midspace
We ask that conferences using the Midspace software contribute to the cost of development and maintenance through one of the packages below.
